Q. How do I find out the progress and/ or schedule of my repairs?
A. Your local Dorian Roofing Representative should keep you up to date on all schedules. If you have any questions about the details of your home repairs we encourage you to reach out to them.
Q. What is needed to get my job scheduled?
Q. What is needed to get my job scheduled?
A. All jobs require a minimum of 30%-50% of the contract amount to cover the cost of the material before work can begin. Each project is different and unique and the percent needed prior to the start of your project will be discussed with you by your local Dorian Roofing Representative. Work will be delayed until the amount for your job is met.
Q. I don’t have the funds at this time for my deductible/ the initial amount allowed by insurance isn’t enough to meet the 30%- 50% requirement. What can I do?
Q. I don’t have the funds at this time for my deductible/ the initial amount allowed by insurance isn’t enough to meet the 30%- 50% requirement. What can I do?
A. We have financing available through Renovate America. There are several options available, just talk to your local Dorian Roofing Representative about what is best for you.
Q. What if my adjuster denies paying part of my bill?
Q. What if my adjuster denies paying part of my bill?
A. Take the time to look over your insurance policy and see if there is an exclusion in your policy. Most insurances owe for the incurred cost less your deductible and any exclusions on your policy. Most also only owe for like kind and quality. Law and ordinance is required by us but not always covered, so it is important to know if it is an exclusion in your policy. Anything outside of this is often an excuse that will save the insurance company money.
Q. No matter what, I only owe my deductible right? Or Q. What If Insurance Doesn’t Play Nice?
A. You are responsible for the bill in full (with the exception of an appraisal award adjustment) It is incumbent on YOU to know your policy, its endorsements/exclusions, and to take actions/communicate with us and your insurance if you expect them to cover the expenses of your loss. In most policies, like yours, in which the insurance has accepted full liability for the replacement cost you incur in getting your home to a pre-loss condition, the carrier pays the full invoice.
Q. I don’t want to deal with talking price differences with my insurance, that’s between you and my insurance, right?
Q. I don’t want to deal with talking price differences with my insurance, that’s between you and my insurance, right?
A. We are in the business of construction. We are not lawyers, public adjusters, or litigators. Not only are price negotiations with your insurance inappropriate and hopelessly ineffective (we aren’t the policyholder so they owe us no answers), but they are quite illegal. They violate the Sherman Act (US Federal trade law), and UPPA (unauthorized practice of Public Adjusting). Your carrier may suggest by email or letter that any disagreements on price be handled before construction starts. We will only discuss the scope of work. If you have disagreements with your carrier on PRICE that cannot be solved with speaking up the chain of command at the carrier offices, you have 5 options:
1) Take it on the chin and pay your contractor out of pocket and hope for the best from your carrier.
2) Take it on the chin and accept a sub-par, corner-cutting contractor who is able to do the work at a below-market rate. (market rate must include General Contractor Overhead and Profit, or else “the cheaper guy” shortcuts are made to still generate a profit)
3) Hire a public adjuster to negotiate on your behalf.
4) Hire an attorney and sue.
5) Go to appraisal to determine the correct valuation.
Common excuses we have seen and how other homeowners have answered them look like:
“That is the cost of doing business” Isn't everything a cost of doing business? Isn’t the adjuster of the claim a cost of doing business for my premiums? Where is this not covered in my policy? If I can’t be shown where it is at in my policy, indemnify me.
“We Don’t Pay For That” Where is this not covered in my policy? If you can’t show me where it is at in my policy, indemnify me.
“Xactimate at 50th Percentile” The contractor I hired charges reasonably for my area. Are you saying that I am incapable of finding a qualified contractor? Where is this not covered in my policy? If you can’t show me where it is at in my policy, indemnify me.
“Do You Have An Inspection From The City” Why do I need an inspection from the city in order to meet the requirement of the law? Are you insisting that my contractor break the law? Where is this not covered in my policy? If you can’t show me where it is at in my policy, indemnify me.
“Anything Relating To Construction” You are welcome to contact my contractor. Is there anything unreasonable or illegitimate? Have you looked at the provided documentation? Why are you discussing construction with me? This is why I hired a general contractor. Where is this not covered in my policy? If you can’t show me where it is at in my policy, indemnify me.
“We found multiple other contractors in your area that are cheaper” Just because they are cheaper doesn’t mean that they are good quality. I have chosen my general contractor based on their quality in restoring homes. Are you saying that I am not allowed to pick my own general contractor? Where is this not covered in my policy? If you can’t show me where it is at in my policy, indemnify me.
“This Is A Simple/or (Single) not enough Trades Roofing Job And Doesn’t Warrant Overhead & Profit” Can you show me where in my policy that it explains simplicity or complexity or multiple trades? Where is this not covered in my policy? Why should I be forced to work for a contractor that doesn’t have overhead or profit? This sets me up for hiring someone who is likely to cut corners to maintain a profit. If you can’t show me where it is at in my policy, indemnify me.
“We need an itemized bill (or a bill in an Xactimate format)” Where in my policy does it state that the general contractor of my choosing is required to use Xactimate as a format for their invoicing or be detailed? Is it less legitimate if the invoice isn’t detailed enough? If it isn’t required in my policy, and this is a covered loss, then please indemnify me.
